This Week in Rockbridge County Virginia

March 10, 2009

I just got this from RACC – some great events this week….

Dear Friends and Members of RACC – Several new events that sound VERY exciting are happening this week and next: a Green Affordable Housing Workshop; Goshen Shelter Project Meeting; Moores Creek Watershed Committee Meeting; RACC Land Use Committee Water Table Meeting; etc.  Please see updated list below, and please forward to any others who may be interested:

I.    Green Affordable Housing Workshop – Tuesday through Thursday, March 10 – 12.

Dear Friends:

I’ve attached a flyer to let you know about a workshop that’s taking place, Tuesday through Thursday, March 10 – 12.

The City of Lexington and Threshold – along with the owner of the property on Thompson’s Knoll (near Lylburn Downing and Richardson Park) are going to explore the possibility of creating a “green” affordable housing project.

They will be doing this by having planners and designers “practice” designing the project to see if it’s possible and reasonable.

FYI – This type of workshop is called a charrette.

My understanding is that there’s room for public input and the progress they are making will be visibly displayed and constantly changing .

I hope to drop by a couple of times.  If you have the time and the inclination to drop by to observe and/or contribute, I hope you will.

I’m thinking it should be very interesting.  Perhaps I’ll see you there.

II. Goshen Shelter Project Meeting – Tuesday, March 10, 7:00 P.M.

Hello All,
We will meet again at the Virginia Horse Center, next Tuesday, March 10, 7pm.
Attached is the latest copy of the budget which we will be discussing.  Note that through a recent donation of roofing material from Spencer Home Center we’re down to needing about $7000 plus three nights of meals.  If we elect to use the type of roofing that we can install ourselves (“master rib panels” as used on the Central Elem School shelter), we can save another $1300, plus have a good community effort installing it.

The demo has been delayed, but is supposed to happen next week (week of March 9).  VDOT will install the concrete pad the week after that.
Also attached is a brochure we’ve developed to use for making fundraising contacts and other information outreach efforts.  In case you want to print a few copies, it’s designed to be printed front and back and cut to make three small brochures.

Hope to see all of you at the meeting.  For attachments or more information, please contact Roy Fauber, rfuaber@yahoo.com or 261-1975.
